SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (6-1) goes for their seventh win in a row on Thursday when they play at UCSD (2-4).
 
Aztec Tidbits
• The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) and Chris Ello (15th season) will have the call on the Aztec Radio Network.
• SDSU is 6-1 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
• The Aztecs' six-game win streak is their longest since the 2012-13 season (17 games).
• SDSU is coming off a 70-36 win over Seattle last Friday.
• In that game, SDSU had a season-low nine turnovers and had season-highs in points in the paint (50) and points off turnovers (41).
Kim Villalobos (Los Angeles) had a career-high seven assists against Seattle last Friday. She was the first Aztec in five years, and only the sixth in the Mountain West era. to have at least seven made field goals, seven assists and three steals.
• Yummy Morris (North Little Rock, Arkansas) had a season-high 19 points against Seattle and was named the Mountain West Player of the Week. She averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 65 percent (13-for-20) from the floor.
• During SDSU's win streak they are holding opponents to 42.3 points and have an average margin of victory of 30.3 points.
• The Aztecs have held their opponents under 55 points in their last six games.
• During SDSU's six-game win streak they have held their opponents to single-digits in 13 of the 24 quarters (54.1%) played.
• The Aztecs are top 20 in the nation in points allowed (9th, 48.6), FG% defense (14th, 33.1%) and steals per game (16th, 12.9).
• SDSU has scored at least 30 points in the paint in five of their last six games.
• The Aztecs are holding opponents to 11.0 points in the fourth quarter.
• SDSU's six wins are tied for ninth-most in the nation. They trail only UNLV (6-0), last year's regular season and tournament champions, in the Mountain West standings.
• Since the beginning of last year, the Aztecs are 16-5 inside Viejas Arena.
• Sophia Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) is one of three players in the nation with career totals of at least 1,600 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.
• Ramos is in the top 10 in program history in 10 statistical categories and in the top five in six, including made points (4th), threes (4th), assists (4th) and made free throws (5th).
• Mercedes Staples (Centerville, Utah) is shooting 44.4 percent from three on the year and 38.8 percent in her SDSU career, good for second in program history. She leads the Mountain West with 15 made threes on the year.
Abby Prohaska (Liberty Township, Ohio) is one of eight players in the nation shooting 100 percent (18-18) from the free throw line (minimum 2.5 makes per game).
 


So Much Depth
• SDSU has six players in their fifth year of college and 10 of their 13 scholarship players are upperclassmen.
• The Aztecs have 10 players averaging 15 or more minutes per game and none playing more than 30.
• SDSU has eight players averaging between 5.0 and 12.0 points per game. On only one occasion has an Aztec scored 20 or more points (Mercedes Staples)
• The Aztecs have already had eight players score in double-digits.
• In their seven games, SDSU has had six different players lead the team in rebounding and/or assists (includes ties).
• SDSU has used four different starting lineup combinations and eight different players have started.
• Seven Aztecs average between 4.0 and 6.0 rebounds.
• Four different Aztecs have made a season-high seven field goals in a game (Yummy Morris, Abby Prohaska, Mercedes Staples 2x and Kim Villalobos.
• Three different players have had a double-double (Khylee Pepe, Abby Prohaska and Kim Villalobos)
 
Season Accomplishments
• SDSU's 6-1 start is their best since the 2007-08 season.
• The Aztecs have held their last six opponents under 55 points, the longest streak since the 2012-13 team who did it in 13 consecutive games during a 17-game win streak.
• The Aztecs had back-to-back 50+ point wins (San Diego Christian and Antelope Valley) for the first time since 1984.
• SDSU had 27 steals against San Diego Christian, their most in a game in the Mountain West era (2000-present).
• The Aztecs held San Diego Christian to 30 points, the lowest point total they've held an opponent to since 2015, also against San Diego Christian (60-25).
• The Aztecs' two 50+ point victories were their largest margin of victory since Dec. 18, 2007, a 91-33 win over Navy.
Kim Villalobos became the first Aztec in five years (and just the sixth in the Mountain West era) to have at least seven made field goals, seven assists and three steals in a game.
• Mercedes Staples was a perfect 6-for-6 from three against Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 15). to become the first Aztec in the Mountain West era to make six or more three-pointers without a miss.
Abby Prohaska was 12-for-12 from the free throw line vs. Antelope Valley (Nov. 12), making her just the second Aztec in the Mountain West era to make at least 12 free throws without a miss (Sophia Ramos, 16-16 vs. New Mexico 1-29-20).
• Three different Aztecs have had double-doubles this year, Khylee Pepe, Abby Prohaska and Kim Villalobos. It was the first career double-double for Pepe and Prohaska.
• Alex Crain had seven steals against San Diego Christian, the most by an Aztec in a game since Dec. 19, 2013 (Ahjalee Harvey vs. Miami Ohio).
• The Aztecs received votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll.

Opponent Notebook (UC San Diego)
• The Tritons are 2-4 on the year.
• They went 13-14 last year and 10-8 in the Big West.
• They are in their third year as a Division I program.
• This is just their second home game of the year. They beat Portland, who SDSU also beat, 85-76 in their lone home game.
• Last week they played in the UNLV Thanksgiving Tournament where they went 1-2.
• Sydney Brown leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg).
• Emily Cangelosi averages 9.2 points and Julia Macabuhay averages 8.0 points. Cangelosi shoots 46 percent from three.
• They commit 18.7 turnovers per game.
• Head coach Heidi Vanderveer is in her 11th season as the UCSD head coach where she has won over 200 games.
 
 All-time Series (UC San Diego)
• The Aztecs are 2-1 all-time against UC San Diego.
• SDSU won 65-57 on Dec. 17 inside Viejas Arena.
• Prior to that meeting, that last played in 1978, a 72-33 SDSU win and in 2001, a 63-59 Triton victory.
