SAN DIEGO – San Diego State softball head coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz has announced that pitcher Cassidy West will join the SDSU softball program. West, a transfer from Fresno State, and San Diego native, will join the Aztecs in the spring semester.

West comes to The Mesa after making a total of 46 appearances over two seasons at Fresno State. While at Fresno State, West posted a 4.16 ERA over two seasons, started 17 games, and threw a total of 155.2 innings. She logged most of those appearances and innings as a sophomore in 2022 where she earned 10 wins in the circle for the Bulldogs and struck out 151 batters. She also limited hitters to a .282 batting average in 2022 and posted four complete games and earned two saves for Fresno State.

Prior to Fresno State, West starred at Mission Bay High School in San Diego. West was a three-time City League MVP and was named Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore and junior. West led Mission Bay High School to the 2019 CIF Div. III championship with a 20-4 record. Over her first three seasons, the right-handed pitcher earned over 30 wins with an ERA of 0.86 and tallied 518 strikeouts in just 302.1 innings pitched. Additionally, West played first and third base and hit .489 with 23 home runs and 108 RBI in her first three HS seasons. In addition to her standout performances in the circle, West won the 2019 CIF championship with a walk-off home run.

Head Coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz: "We are extremely excited to welcome Cassidy to SDSU and back home to San Diego. She has a lot of experience and understands the demands of not only college softball but the Mountain West Conference specifically.  She is a great addition and will add depth to our pitching staff."

San Diego State softball enters the 2023 season fresh off a return to postseason play and another NCAA regional appearance in 2022. SDSU finished the 2022 season with a 39-16 record (.709), the second-best record in program history, before falling to No. 8/5 Arizona State, 8-4, in the NCAA Tempe Regional final. San Diego State also captured its league-record eighth MW title with a 20-4 conference record.

The 2023 schedule will be released shortly.
