SAN DIEGO – Three members of the Aztec men's soccer team were named to the College Sports Communications Academic All-District Team. Rommee Jaridly, Henry Smith-Hastie and Iñigo Villaldea were honored for their work in the classroom.
Jaridly (Chino Hills, Calif.) holds a 3.77 cumulative GPA as a business administration major. Jaridly appeared in 16 of SDSU's 18 matches and made three starts. He scored the first goal of his career against Loyola Marymount (Aug. 28).
Smith-Hastie (Los Angeles) boasts a 3.82 GPA as an economics major. He appeared in all 18 matches as a defensive midfielder and started 14, averaging 66 minutes per match.
Villaldea (Gijón, Spain), a star off and on the pitch, has a 3.87 GPA as a social science major. A three-time All-Pac-12 selection, he was named to the Pac-12 Honor roll last season. Despite missing seven games due to injury, Villaldea, a team captain, still finished with career-highs in points (14) and goals (5).
It is the first time being named to the Academic All-District Team for all three. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve. All-district selections are now eligible for the Academic All-American team.
