OKLAHOMA CITY -- San Diego State senior cornerback Dallas Branch (Redondo Beach, Calif.) has been named the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Player of the Week, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame announced Thursday. On Monday Branch was honored as the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Branch is the second known Aztec to win the prestigious weekly award and first since Luq Barcoo on Oct. 10. 2019.
 
Branch helped SDSU to a 14-10 win over UNLV on Saturday night with four tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery. Branch ended up setting career highs in tackles for loss and had his first sack, while picking up his first interception and fumble recovery of the season. He first recovered a fumble in the second quarter after UNLV reached San Diego State territory and later picked off a Doug Brumfield pass in the end zone on the second play of the fourth quarter.
 
On the season, Branch has 23 tackles (16 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack, interception, fumble recovery and two pass breakups. He has played in all nine games with three starts to his credit.
