SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's golf team will be competing at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Denver this weekend (Oct. 7-9). The three-day tournament will be played at the University of Denver Golf Club and will be SDSU's second tournament of the 2022-23 season.

The 16-team field features four other Mountain West schools (Colorado State, Fresno State, New Mexico and Wyoming) and two power-five opponents (Iowa and Vanderbilt). Other schools competing are Delaware, Denver (host), Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Incarnate Word, Northern Arizona, Tennessee Chattanooga, Tulane and Xavier.

The Aztecs will use the Bernice Olivarez Ilas (Ayala Alabang, Philippines), Anika Sato (Utsunomiya, Japan), Sammy Lee (San Ramon, Calif.), April Ranches (San Diego) and Anna Lina Otten (Neuss, Germany).

Olivarez Ilas is SDSU's top returner from last year and led the Aztecs in their first tournament, shooting a 222 (+5, 76-73-73).
Sato had a phenomenal freshman campaign last year. She averaged 74.9 strokes per 18, had three top 20 finishes, and six rounds under par.

Lee is coming off the best tournament of her collegiate career. She shot a 224 (+8, 74-75-75) and had the second-best score among Aztecs.

Ranches, a fifth-year senior, has played in 18 tournaments (50 rounds) in her career.

Otten started for the Aztecs in every tournament last year. She finished one stroke behind Lee in SDSU's first tournament to finish with a 225 (+9, 73-75-77).

The Aztecs will tee off at 9 a.m. PT and wil be paired with Chattanooga and individuals from Denver, New Mexico and Vanderbilt.

The University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch is par 72 and was designed by three-time U.S. Open Champion Hale Irwin. It has views of the Rocky Mountains and features expansive greens. Its yardage will be either 6,613 or 6,756 depending on the day, but the ball will carry due to the mile-high elevation.

The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a slight breeze. The high temperature could hit 70 degrees and lows will be in the high 40s.
