SAN DIEGO – Emma Gaines-Ramos, who had four assists over the weekend for San Diego State women's soccer, has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 2. The announcement was made at the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The Aztecs earned a comeback 3-3 draw at Colorado College and a 2-1 win at Air Force over the weekend, and Gaines-Ramos provided four assists over those two matches.
The San Diego native and graduate of Otay Ranch High School assisted on the opening goal and the game winning goal in the Aztecs 2-1 win over Air Force on Thursday. She also grabbed an assist on both the first and second goals in the match at Colorado College on Sunday, a match in which the Aztecs at one point trailed 3-0, before eventually tying 3-3.
For the season, Gaines-Ramos is now up to four goals and six assists. Her tally of 14 points this season ranks second on the Aztecs and is tied for second in the Mountain West Conference. Gaines-Ramos also has six assists which leads the MW Conference and puts her in a tie for 17th in the nation in total assists. The junior forward also is in a tie for 26th in the country in assists per game at 0.50 per contest.
This is Gaines-Ramos's first MW Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, and is the first of her Aztec career.
