SAN DIEGORandy Galza, who has coached water polo from club all the way up to the collegiate Division I level, has been named an assistant coach with the San Diego State water polo program, interim head water polo coach Dana Ochsner announced on Friday.

"I am very excited to add Randy to our coaching staff," Ochsner said. "We have an amazing group of coaches and trainers working with women's water polo and Randy's experience and skill specialization make him a great addition to our team. I look forward to seeing the impact he can have on this program."

Most recently, in 2021, Galza served on the staff of the UC Irvine men's water polo program. The three seasons prior to his UC Irvine stint, from 2018 to 2020, Galza was an assistant coach for both the women's and men's water polo teams at Saddleback College, in Mission Viejo, Calif. His other collegiate experience came at Los Angeles' Occidental College where he was an assistant for the men's water polo program.  In all three stops he was responsible for recruiting, practice planning and coaching goalies, among other duties.

At the high school level, Galza has worked with girls' teams in the San Diego area. He was head coach at Mount Carmel High, and an assistant at La Costa Canyon and Carlsbad High. He led the boys' program at Chaparral High in Temecula, Calif., and Mission Hills High in San Marcos, Calif., and was an assistant at Torrey Pines High.

In addition, he was both the boys and girls head coach at the Milken Community School in Bel Air, Calif.

Since 2016, Galza has coached goalies with the SOCAL Water Polo Club. His charges have competed on Junior Olympic gold medal winning teams at the Platinum level, for boys and girls in all age groups, as well as CIF championship teams. He has developed over 30 goalkeepers, male and female, who have played Division I, II, and III collegiate water polo.

Galza has conducted specialized goalie clinics locally and across the country. He started coaching in 1999 at Carlsbad North Shore Club and has been a specialized goalkeeper position coach since 2003.
