LOGAN, Utah – San Diego State women's soccer drew 0-0 with Utah State on Thursday afternoon in Logan, Utah. The Aztecs had seven shots with two coming on frame on Thursday.
The Aztecs (7-4-6, 5-2-2 MW) earned the 0-0 draw with Utah State (7-5-6, 4-3-2 MW) in large part due to Alexa Madueno's seven saves between the sticks. The junior out of Woodland California made several stops throughout the match to secure the Aztecs a much-needed point on the road.
While Utah State outshot SDSU overall, it was the Aztecs who had the best chance of the first half in the 17th minute. After some solid build up play down the left flank, a cross ricocheted to the feet of senior Claire Watkins who fired a shot from outside the box which was saved by the Aggies keeper to keep the match scoreless.
Later in the half Madueno was called into action in the Aztecs net in the 32nd minute where she saved a shot from Utah State's Tess Werts and the two sides headed to the halftime break scoreless, 0-0.
The second half was much of the same. Both squads fired off quality looks but both keepers were up to the challenge. Madueno made five saves in the second half to keep the Aggies at bay while offensively Rachelle Elve had the best chance for the Aztecs in the second half, but her curling effort flashed just wide of the post, and the match finished 0-0.
The Stat: Junior keeper Alexa Madueno kept her fourth clean sheet in the past five matches played.
Up Next: The Aztecs continue their road trip with a match against Boise State on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
