SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis, fresh off of finals wins at both the USD College Invitational and SDSU Fall Classic I, are set to participate in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. Action will take place Thursday through Monday at both SDSU and USD.
The Aztecs have three teams competing in the doubles bracket, with two of the three receiving first-round byes– the pairs of Alicia Melosch and Tamara Arnold as well as Andjela Skrobonja and Dariya Detkovskaya will not play until the round of 32 at 9 a.m. PT on Friday. A day prior, the duo of Cecile Morin and Andreea Velcea will match up against Justine Dondonay and Doga Akyurek from Long Beach State on Thursday at 9 a.m. PT.
Skrobonja and Detkovskaya will look to build upon their undefeated performance as a pair from their time at the USD College Invitational. The duo collected four consecutive wins including three over power-five teams en-route to a doubles tournament championship the first week of October. They enter play on Friday as the sixth seed and will match up against the winner of Haily Huynh and Nour Kayat from UC Irvine, and Dania Deaifi and Valentina Del Marco from Grand Canyon University.
The action continues at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday morning with three singles matches featuring SDSU's Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer up against Ana Vilcek from the University of Hawai'i, Morin facing Grace Gamal of UCSD, and Detkovskaya taking on Valentina Del Marco from Grand Canyon University. Following shortly after at 11 a.m. PT will be fellow Aztecs Melosch against Katelyn Vu of UCSD, and Velcea will play Camila Garcia of Cal State Fullerton. Finally, to round things up for San Diego State in the singles bracket, Tamara Arnold and Andjela Skrobonja will each receive first-round byes and debut in the round of 64 at 2:15 pm P.T.
