Aztecs Set For Road Match at Boise State Today

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State Women's Soccer heads on their penultimate road trip of the season this week when they play at Utah State on Thursday at 4 p.m. MT and then will play at Boise State on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT on Sunday.
 
Hitting The Road
- SDSU heads to Logan, Utah having won five of their last seven matches (5W, 1D, 1L) and are top of the Mountain West Conference with a total of 16 points.
 
- The Aztecs have posted an 8-0-2 record against Utah State in their history, and are an impressive 4-0 on the road, both under Head Coach Mike Friesen and overall. SDSU has also matched up well with Boise State whom they face on Sunday. San Diego State is 9-7 all-time against the Broncos and are 4-3 when playing at Boise State.
 
- During conference play as a whole, San Diego State has reached eight of the last nine Mountain West Tournament Championship matches, and has advanced to the NCAA tournament in four of those seasons. 2021 was the only season that the Aztecs did not reach the MW tournament final in those nine seasons.
 
- SDSU has been widely successful in the Mountain West Conference. Since the Aztecs joined the conference in 1999 San Diego State boasts a .675 winning percentage, and an overall record of 116--50-23. Additionally, under Friesen the Aztecs have a .723 winning percentage and an overall record of 93-31-15.
 
Draws on the Deck
- San Diego State have drawn five matches so far out of their 14 matches played this season. They also had a three-match draw streak, having drawn at home against the University of San Diego 0-0, UC San Diego 2-2, Saint Mary's, 2-2. It was the first time in program history that the Aztecs have earned three ties in a row.
 
The Chase For 100
- Head Coach Mike Friesen enters this week's matches at 98 career regular season MW wins at the helm of San Diego State women's soccer. The 16-year MW veteran head coach, who is already the winningest coach all-time in conference history would become the first MW head coach to reach the milestone among any coach in the league's history.

At The Peak
- San Diego State has multiple players in the top-10 in the conference in a variety of categories. Denise Castro currently leads the conference in total game-winning goals with three, while she is also second in the conference in total points with 18, tied for second in goals scored with 7, and is sixth in the conference in shots on goal with 16.
 
- Emma Gaines-Ramos is also amongst the leaders in the MW Conference. She ranks first in assists with seven, tied for first in total points with 19, third in shots on goal with 17, and is tied for fourth in goals with five.
 
First Place Aztecs
- San Diego State enters the penultimate round of MW play with a one-point lead in the conference standings. San Diego State has a total of 16 points, while New Mexico is right behind them with 15, followed by San Jose State with 14 points, and Boise State and Utah State each have 13 points.
 
Shot Stopper
- Junior keeper Alexa Madueno has moved into the top-10 all-time in career saves this season. Madueno has stopped 188 shots in her career, including 73 so far this season, putting her sixth all-time in career saves.
 
Sharing The Wealth
- San Diego State scored a total of nine goals in the first two weeks of the season, including putting seven past Idaho on August 28.
 
- Those seven goals scored against Idaho were the most the Aztecs had scored in a match since the 2008 season when the Aztecs beat the Air Force Academy 7-0.
 
 - The Aztecs have a total of 24 assists through 16 matches this season, and 11 different players have assisted on those goals.
