SDSU HEADS TO NEVADA TO BEGIN SECOND HALF OF SEASON
* Following a weekend off from competition, San Diego State kicks off the second half of the season Saturday night at Nevada.
* It's just the third road game of the season for the Aztecs (3-3, 1-1 MW) but their 26th away from San Diego County in their last 30 games. Prior to this season, SDSU had played its previous 23 games (two-plus seasons) out of San Diego County, including 12 "home" games at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, some two hours away from the San Diego State campus.
* Only nine teams in the country have had less true road games than San Diego State's two this season.
* Although the Aztecs are 0-2 this year on the road, they are 5-2 on the road since the 2021 season. The .714 road win percentage since 2021 is tied for 15th best in FBS over that span. SDSU also has a 38-24 win over UTSA in the 2021 Frisco Bowl in Frisco, Texas.
* San Diego State is coming off a 16-14 victory over Hawai'i on Oct. 8. The Aztecs threw for 322 yards - six yards off their season total through the first five games - and received three field goals from Jack Browning, including the game-winner with seven seconds left.
* Two weeks after playing 65 snaps at safety in a 17-14 San Diego State win over Toledo, Jalen Mayden started at quarterback and had the most passing yards in an SDSU starting quarterback debut since current quarterbacks coach Ryan Lindley threw for 352 against Cal Poly on Aug. 30, 2008. It was the most yards in a debut in a San Diego State victory since Kevin McKechnie passed for 371 against Navy on Sept. 5, 1997.
* Tyrell Shavers set career highs with eight catches and 149 yards after entering with seven receptions for 65 yards through the first five games.
* SDSU is now 31-14 against the West Division of the Mountain West since the league split into two divisions in 2013. That's the best winning percentage (.689) against the West Division among the six West Division schools.
* The six West Division schools are separated by just two games. San Jose State leads the way at 2-1, followed San Diego State (1-1), UNLV (2-2), Fresno State (1-1) and Hawai'i (1-1) a ½ game back, and Nevada (2-5, 0-3 MW) two games back from first.
* The Aztecs are meeting the Wolf Pack for the 15th time with SDSU owning an 8-6 series lead.
* The last four meetings have been decided by a total of 15 points with Nevada winning in 2018 (28-24), 2019 (17-13) and 2020 (26-21) before San Diego State downed the Wolf Pack, 23-21, last year in Carson.
* The 15-point scoring separation is the closest over a four-game stretch for the Aztecs since playing four games against New Mexico from 1998-01 separated by 12 points (W, 36-33, in 1998; L, 24-21, in 1999; W, 17-16, in 2000; L, 20-15, in 2001). The last FBS teams to play four games with less than 15-point separation was Navy and Tulane from 2017-20 (9 points).
* With the 16-14 win over Hawai'i, SDSU has won eight consecutive games decided by one score (eight points or less). That is San Diego State's longest streak since at least 1980 and tied for the second-longest active streak in the country with Michigan State, only trailing Utah State (9).
* The Aztecs have shut out three consecutive opponents in the first half - Toledo (W, 17-14), Boise State (L, 35-13) and Hawai'i (W, 16-14). That is the longest active streak in the country, tied with Michigan for the longest this season and matching the longest in FBS play since a four-game stretch by Clemson in 2017.
* Out of the 24 quarters played this season, SDSU has shut out its opponent in half of them (12), including 12 of the last 19 quarters.
* Both San Diego State and Nevada have won 29 consecutive games when leading at the end of the third quarter, which is eighth-longest active streak in the country (Clemson leads at 66).
* The Aztecs are in the midst of playing just one home game - the 16-14 win over Hawai'i on Oct. 8 - in a 27-day stretch.
