SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's tennis takes the court for the first time since making the NCAA Tournament last spring, and will take part in two different tournaments this weekend. Half of the squad will travel across town to USD for the USD Intercollegiate Tournament held Thursday through Sunday, and the other half will host the SDSU Fall Classic I Friday through Sunday.

The quartet representing SDSU at the USD Intercollegiate tournament include Alicia Melosch, Dariya Detkovskaya, Andjela Skrobonja, and Andreea Velcea. Of those four, all but Melosch will be representing the Aztecs for the first time. Other schools involved at the USD Intercollegiate this weekend include power-five schools Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Utah.

In the opening round of singles play on Thursday morning, Velcea will be facing Madison Tattini out of Utah, while Melosch will take on Alana Wolfberg out of Oklahoma State. Skrobonja will play against Kailey Evans of USD, and Detkovskaya will face Mila Stanojevic out of Colorado. As for doubles play, Detkovskaya and Skrobonja will team up for the first time when they take the court as a pair on Friday morning against Kayla Meraz and Tanvi Narendran out of Arizona. Melosch and Velcea will also be playing doubles together for the first time and will be taking on Belen Nevenhoven and Alexa Ryngler also out of Arizona. Doubles play is scheduled to begin on Friday at 10 a.m. PT.

Additionally, San Diego State will also have four student-athletes competing at home at the SDSU Fall Classic I, which will run Friday through Sunday. Rania Azziz, Julia Jordan, Cecile Morin and Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer will all take part for San Diego State. Azziz will be making her San Diego State debut on Friday.

Azziz, a transfer from LSU, is the only one of the four competing for the first time for the scarlet and black. She will take part in doubles action with Morin for the first time on Friday morning when they play Thassane Abrahim and Veronika Lebisova out of UTEP. Also, in doubles play in the red bracket, Jordan and Von Tersch Pohrer will suit up together for the first time, and will play Natalie Duffy and Milena Gevorgyan out of Cal State Fullerton.

Individually, Morin will take part in Friday's singles action against Zoe Olmos of Cal State Fullerton in the white bracket, while Jordan will play Cindy Ung of CSUN to open singles play in the red bracket. Von Tersch Pohrer will wrap up singles play for the Aztecs on Friday, and will take on Zuzanna Szczepanska of UTEP in the black bracket.

Admission to the SDSU Fall Classic I is free, and fans are encouraged to park in P7 on the corner of 55th Street and Montezuma Road. The Aztec Tennis Center is located just beyond Tony Gwynn Stadium, SDSU Softball Stadium and the Aztec Aquaplex on the northwest edge of campus.
