Aztecs Men’s Tennis Earns Three Victories on Sunday

SAN DIEGO – Members of the San Diego State men's tennis team competed in three consolation finals at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., on Sunday, while the last day of the Battle in the Bay Qualifying was cancelled due to weather.

Three Aztecs, Liam Spiers, Mathieu Josserand and Andre Saleh earned singles wins to wrap up the final day of competition at the Wildcat Invitational.
 
Spiers faced off against independent Roko Stipetic and came up big in his consolation final match. He roared back from down 4-1 to win a hard fought first set in the tiebreaker and followed it up with a second set win to claim victory, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4.
 
From the get-go, Josserand was dominant in his final match. He won the first set with a bagel and from there coasted to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Grand Canyon's Loic Van Zeggelaar.
 
Saleh drew New Mexico State's Jordy Visser in his final match in Tucson and notched his first victory as an Aztec, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
 
Lenny Melzer faced Morgan Donovan of Northern Arizona in the consolation final. The native of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, kept it close in the first set, but ran out of steam in the second, falling 6-4, 6-2.
 
On the doubles side of the bracket, Spiers and Melzer paired up to face the New Mexico State duo of Itay Feigin and Visser in the consolation finals but were bested 6-2.

The final day of the Battle in the Bay Qualifying was called off due to inclement weather.
