SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's soccer sophomore forward Denise Castro has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced from their office in Colorado Springs Colorado on Monday.
 
Castro, a San Ysidro, California native, scored both goals in the Aztecs 2-1 win over Nebraska on Thursday, and also provided a goal and assist in the 7-2 rout of Idaho on Sunday.
 
In the game against Nebraska, she was incredibly efficient with her shots. She had three total shots in the match and all three were on goal. She scored the Aztecs opener in the 28th minute, and then scored the game-winner in the 90th minute with 28 seconds to go in the match to secure the 2-1 win for the Aztecs. The game winning goal is the second game-winner of her career.  
 
As for the match on Sunday against Idaho, Castro assisted on the Aztecs go-ahead goal in the 27th minute which gave the Aztecs a 2-1 lead, and then put one in the back of the net herself in the 32nd minute.
 
This is the first time in her career that Castro has been named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. She earned Mountain West Freshman of the week twice last season, in addition to being named second-team All-MW and named to the MW all-freshman team.
