SAN DIEGO – Emma Gaines-Ramos found the back of the net twice, and six different Aztecs scored in the match, as San Diego State trounced Idaho 7-2 on Sunday afternoon on the SDSU Sports Deck.

It was Idaho who got off to a hot start with a goal in the 11th minute to go up 1-0, before the Aztecs offense came to life. San Diego State scored five times between the 23rd and 45th minutes to change the 1-0 Idaho lead into a 5-2 Aztec advantage by the end of the first half.

Lauren Dicus scored the equalizer for the Aztecs in the 23rd minute when a scramble for a loose ball in the box off a corner found the foot of Dicus and she smashed it home. Olivia Sekimoto then scored the go-ahead goal in the 27th minute to give the Aztecs a 2-1 advantage. The goal was Sekimoto's first of her career. The Aztecs continued to put pressure on the Idaho goal and in the 32nd minute Denise Castro scored to give the Aztecs a 3-1 lead. Castro, who scored both goals against Nebraska on Thursday, is now up to three goals on the season.

Gaines-Ramos, who assisted Sekimoto's go-ahead goal, scored the Aztecs fourth and fifth of the game. She first put the Aztecs up 4-2 in the 42nd minute off of a penalty kick. Gaines-Ramos was the one who drew the penalty as well when she darted into the box and was brought down by an Idaho defender. She then calmly slotted home her penalty into the upper right-hand corner of the net, putting the Aztecs up 5-2 heading into halftime.

Neither team found the back of the net again until freshman Logan Nidy opened her account for the Aztecs in the 58th minute. The freshman, who was a prolific goal-scorer in high school, dribbled past two defenders in the buildup to the goal before calmly slotting the shot past the Idaho keeper to give the Aztecs a 6-2 advantage. Rachelle Elve became the sixth Aztec to score on Sunday, and completed the Aztecs goal tally with her first of the season just over a minute after Nidy scored her goal, giving the Aztecs the 7-2 win.
