SAN DIEGO -- A pair of former Aztecs started in all their games in the MLB while three more competed in a golf tournament.
In the MLB, infielder Ty France (2013-15) started all six games at first base for Seattle. Last week, he collected a pair of hits with an RBI and three runs scored. He currently leads the American League with 17 hit-by-pitches. On the season, France is batting .287 with a .358 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, 57 RBIs and 44 runs. Catcher Seby Zavala (2012-15) started at catcher for the Chicago White Sox in three games, batting .500, with a .556 on-base percentage, and a run-scoring double on Sunday against Detroit. So far this season, Zavala is batting .283, with two homers, 18 RBIs, 13 runs and a .323 on-base percentage. Pittsburgh outfielder Greg Allen (2012-14) started all six games in the outfield and at designated hitter. On the week, he batted .227 with a .292 on-base percentage, a home run, three RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases. Allen batted in a run in three straight games with an RBI double on Wednesday, a run-scoring single on Thursday, and a solo blast on Friday. This season, Allen has a home run, five RBis, eight runs and four stolen bases. Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg (2008-09) is on the 60-Day IL and is not expected to return this season.
On the PGA Tour, J.J. Spaun (2009-12) tied for 42nd in the FedEx St. Jude Championship at 4-under-par while Xander Schauffele (2013-15) tied for 57th at -2. Scott Piercy (1999-2001) did not make the cut. Schauffele is ranked sixth in the world and sixth in the FedEx Cup and Spaun is ranked 31st in the FedEx Cup. This weekend, Schauffele and Spaun will compete in the BMW Championship, in Wilmington, Delaware.
