SAN DIEGO -- A trio of former Aztecs started in the MLB while two more competed in a golf tournament.

In the MLB, infielder Ty France (2013-15) started five games at first base for Seattle. Last week, he batted .200, with a .238 on-base percentage, a home run, four RBIs and two runs. In his first game of the week on Friday night, France ripped a two-run single to tie the Los Angeles Angels at 3-3 in the ninth inning. The clutch hit was off Jesse Chavez, the most traded player in MLB history. The next day, France launched a two run-shot to deep left field to give Seattle its only runs in a 2-1 victory. He currently leads the American League with 17 hit-by-pitches. On the season, France is batting .302 with a .373 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, 56 RBIs and 41 runs. Catcher Seby Zavala (2012-15) started at catcher for the Chicago White Sox in three games and drove in a run. So far this season, Zavala is batting .268, with two homers, a .306 on-base percentage, 17 RBIs and 13 runs. Pittsburgh outfielder Greg Allen (2012-14) started three games while appearing in all seven. On the week, he batted .231, with a .375 on-base percentage, an RBI, and four runs scored. This season, Allen has six hits, six runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg (2008-09) is on the 60-Day IL and is not expected to return this season. 

On the PGA Tour, Scott Piercy (1999-2001) tied for 27th in the Wyndham Championship at 8-under-par while J.J. Spaun (2009-12) did not make the cut. Xander Schauffele (2013-15) is ranked fifth in the world and fourth in the FedEx Cup and Spaun is ranked 26th in the FedEx Cup. Next weekend, Schauffele, Piercy, and Spaun will compete in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, in Memphis, Tennessee.
