SAN DIEGO -- One former Aztec is putting a winning streak together on the PGA Tour while a pair each started four games in the MLB.
On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) picked up his second consecutive PGA victory in the Genesis Scottish Open at 14-under-par. It was his seventh career win. Schauffele also won an unofficial event during the week. J.J. Spaun (2009-12) tied for 59th in the event at 12-over-par. Schauffele is ranked fifth in the world and third in the FedEx Cup and Spaun is ranked 29th in the FedEx Cup. Next weekend, Schauffele will look for his third straight PGA victory in The Open Championship, in Fife, Scotland, while Scott Piercy (1999-2001) is competing in the Barracuda Championship, in Truckee, California.
In the MLB, catcher Seby Zavala (2012-15) started at catcher in four games for the Chicago White Sox. For the week, he batted .286 with a .333 on-base percentage, two runs scored and an RBI. So far this season, Zavala is batting .323 with a .357 on-base percentage, eight runs scored, 12 RBIs and a home run. Infielder Ty France (2013-15) returned from the 10-Day IL to start four games at designated hitter for Seattle. This week, he singled, doubled, and was intentionally walked. He currently leads all of baseball with 14 hit-by-pitches. On the season, France is batting .306 with a .379 on-base percentage, 10 homers, 32 runs and 45 RBIs. Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg (2008-09) is on the 15-Day IL with a stress reaction in his ribs. Outfielder Greg Allen (2012-14) started his rehab assignment as he tries to return from the 60-Day IL for Pittsburgh.
