SAN DIEGO – Aztec head women's soccer coach Mike Friesen has released San Diego State's 2022 schedule. The 20-game schedule features nine contests at the SDSU Sports Deck, a match at Snapdragon Stadium, and 10 roads matches this fall.
After an exhibition at Arizona on August 10, the Aztecs will open the 2022 season on the road when they face Nebraska out of the Big Ten on August 18. The Aztecs are 1-1-1 all-time against the Cornhuskers and won the most recent matchup 2-1 in double overtime back on September 8, 2017.
The Aztecs will return to the SDSU SportsDeck for their home-opener on August 18 when they play host to Idaho. The match will be the first time the two programs have faced each other. The Aztecs will then travel up the I-5 during the last week of August when they face Long Beach State on August 25 and Pepperdine on August 28.
To begin September, SDSU will play three home matches in a row on the SDSU SportsDeck, two against crosstown foes USD and UC San Diego on September 1 and 4, as well as Saint Mary's on September 9. The Aztecs are a combined 12-8-2 against UC San Diego and USD.
The Aztecs will wrap up their non-conference schedule with a trip back to Los Angeles to play UCLA out of the PAC-12 on September 15.
Following the trip to UCLA, San Diego State will open Mountain West Conference play with two home matches. The Aztecs will face Colorado State on September 22 to open conference play, and then play Wyoming on September 25. The Aztecs are an impressive 7-0-1 in the Friesen era against Colorado State and are 12-4-1 against Wyoming under Friesen.
SDSU will head to the Centennial State for two matches against Colorado College on September 29 and Air Force on October 2 for their first Mountain West road trip. San Diego State is 6-3-3 all-time against Colorado College and is 22-1-1 (.917 winning percentage) against Air Force all-time.
The Aztecs will return to America's finest city in the beginning of October for four-straight home matches. The first match will be on October 6 against San Jose State, where the program will play its first ever match in the brand-new Snapdragon Stadium. San Diego State posts an impressive 12-1-3 record under Friesen against the Spartans.
The Aztecs will have home conference matches at the SDSU SportsDeck against Fresno State on October 9 and Nevada on October 13. San Diego State will then wrap up their home schedule against UNLV on October 16. Against those three schools the Aztecs are a combined 44-16-4 all-time.
The Aztecs will finish off the season with three road matches. SDSU will face Utah State on October 20, SDSU is 8-0-2 all-time against the Aggies and are a perfect 4-0-0 on the road. The Aztecs will play at Boise State on October 23, before wrapping up the regular season against New Mexico on October 27 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Mountain West tournament is scheduled for Oct. 30 – Nov. 5 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
