SAN DIEGO – Aztec men's soccer head coach Ryan Hopkins has released SDSU's 2022 schedule. The 18-game slate features eight matches against teams that made the postseason in 2021, 10 home contests and a game against Washington, the 2021 NCAA runner-up, at Snapdragon Stadium.

The Aztecs, who were ranked as high as No. 13 in the country last year, kick off the 2022 campaign with a pair of friendlies. First, they will play at UC Irvine Aug. 14 and then host California Baptist Aug. 19.

SDSU officially begins the season Aug. 25 when they play at CSUN. The Aztecs blanked the Matadors in the season opener last year, SDSU's first of eight straight shutouts to begin the year.

The Aztecs will host LMU for their home opener Aug. 28. SDSU played the Lions to a 0-0 draw in 2021 when LMU was ranked No. 17 in the country. LMU went 12-4-2 last season and just missed out on the NCAA Tournament.

SDSU then heads to Omaha, Nebraska for matches at Omaha and Creighton. The Aztecs play at Omaha Sept. 2 and then play at Creighton Sept 5. It will be SDSU's first meeting with the Blue Jays, who made it to the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, since 2007.

SDSU returns to San Diego for a pair of home games against UNLV (Sept. 9) and Denver (Sept. 11). This will be SDSU's 39th meeting with the Rebels and their first match against Denver since 2014. Coach Hopkins was an assistant at Denver from 2013-17 and helped the Pioneers make the postseason four straight years, including the final four in 2016. Denver went 10-4-5 last year and won the Summit League.

The Aztecs will begin their Pac-12 schedule in the Bay Area with games at California (Sept. 15) and Stanford (Sept. 18). SDSU beat Cal 2-0 in their only meeting last year and split with Stanford, knocking off the then-ranked No. 23 Cardinal 1-0 in double overtime Sept. 19 for SDSU's first win over Stanford since 2011.

SDSU's next three matches, and seven of their final 10, will be in San Diego. It begins with a Sept. 24 tilt against UC San Diego, the Aztecs' first clash with the Tritons, who recently moved up to DI, since 1983.

The Aztecs will then host Washington (Sept. 29) in the first ever collegiate soccer match at the brand-new Snapdragon Stadium. The Huskies were the national runners-ups last year.

On Oct. 2 SDSU hosts Oregon State who made it to the Elite Eight as the No. 1 overall seed a year ago

SDSU closes out their first pass through Pac-12 play Oct. 7 at UCLA. The Bruins advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Aztecs host crosstown foe San Diego Oct. 15. SDSU took down the Toreros 2-1 last year, scoring the game-winner with four seconds left on a free kick.

SDSU resumes Pac-12 play when they welcome in Stanford (Oct. 20) and Cal (Oct. 23).

After a trip to the Pacific Northwest for games at Oregon State (Nov. 3) and Washington (Nov. 6), SDSU closes out the regular season at home against UCLA (Nov. 11).

The 2021 Aztecs went undefeated in non-conference play for the first time since 2005 and posted their best record overall in five years. They finished with a 7-3-0 record at home, their best home winning percentage since 2011.

SDSU returns seven starters from 2021, including All-Pac-12 First-Team honorees Jacob Castro and Iñigo Villaldea.

All SDSU's road Pac-12 contests will be shown on Pac-12 Networks while the majority of their home games will be streamed for free on the Aztec Digital Network. All matches at the SDSU Sports Deck are free.
