50th Anniversary of Title IX
Laurel Brassey made national headlines in 1974 when she became the first female to play on a college men’s team as San Diego State’s starting setter. After an international playing career, she returned to SDSU in 1981, competing on the Aztec women’s team for one season. She garnered All-America accolades after helping the Scarlet and Black to a third-place finish at the inaugural NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
