Sara Kjellker Tied for Eighth After One Round at Regionals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sara Kjellker of the Aztec women's golf team shot a 71 (-1) and is tied for eighth after the first round of the NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
 
Kjellker (Hollviken, Sweden) is currently in a four-way tie for the final individual spot to advance to NCAA Championships. The top two individuals who are not on a qualifying team (top four) will move on.
 
Kjellker's day was highlighted by a 70-yard wedge shot to eagle the par four 336-yard 15th hole. She was an even par with a birdie and bogey on the front nine and one under par on the back nine, with an eagle, a birdie and two bogeys.
 
Battling high winds, Bernice Olivarez Ilas (Ayala Alabang, Philippines) finished with an 80 (+8). She had a pair of birdies, both of which came on par fours.
 
STAT OF THE DAY
Sara Kjellker averaged 3.9 strokes on par fours, tied for the third best on the day.
 
UP NEXT
The Aztec duo begins their second round at 7:55 a.m. PT (8:55 a.m. MT) Tuesday. Kjellker will begin on the first hole while Olivarez Ilas will start on the 10th.
