SAN DIEGO -- A former Aztec knocked in a trio of runs while another finished in the top five in a golf tournament.

In the MLB, infielder Ty France (2013-15) started at first base in all of Seattle's six games. Last week, he batted .391 with a .500 on-base percentage, two runs scored and three RBIs. He currently leads all of baseball with 163 plate appearances and six hit-by-pitches. France knocked in a run in each of the Mariners' first three games of the week. Last year's hit-by-pitch leader was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Jarred Kelenic in a game Seattle would win by a run. He followed it up with run scoring singles on Wednesday and Friday (Seattle was off on Thursday). Friday's RBI was the second run in a 2-1 win over the New York Mets. On the season, he is batting .324 with a .401 on-base percentage, five homers, 25 RBIs and 15 runs. Pitcher Stephen Strasburg (2008-09) remains on the 10-Day IL for Washington, but is nearing a return. Outfielder Greg Allen (2012-14) is spending at least the first two months of the season on the 60-Day IL for Pittsburgh.

On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) tied for fifth in the AT&T Byron Nelson at 23-under-par, while J.J. Spaun (2009-12) tied for 38th at 15-under-par. Scott Piercy (1999-2001) did not make the cut. Schauffele is ranked 10th in the world and 18th in the FedEx Cup and Spaun is ranked 19th in the FedEx Cup. This weekend, Schauffele and Spaun are competing in the PGA Championship, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
