BREMERTON, Wash. -- The San Diego State men's golf team fired a 15-under-par 273 to move comfortably into second place on the second day of the 2022 Mountain West Championship Saturday at the par-72, 7,115-yard Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Club. The lowest round of the tournament so far has the Aztecs at 20-under 556, just two shots behind 36-hole leader Colorado State (-22).

The 273 was also SDSU's lowest single-round score in its MW Championship history, bettering a 275 shot in the second round at the 2013 championship and in the final round in 2015. The Rams (-22) and San Diego State (-20) are followed by No. 34 Nevada (-9), while Boise State (-5) and San Jose State (E) round out the top 5.

The Aztecs have three golfers in the top 6 through 36 holes with senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) in a tie for second at 8-under 136 following a lights-out 6-under 66 today. Guezzale is tied with Nevada's Trey Davis and three strokes behind Colorado State's Connor Jones (-11) for first. Guezzale's 66 today included seven birdies and a lone bogey on the par-4, 458-yard seventh hole. Guezzale played his final 10 holes at 5-under with birdies on the par-5, 617-yard ninth, the par-4, 378-yard 10th, the par-5, 513-yard 14th, the par-4, 355-yard 15th and the par-4, 324-yard 18th.

Zihao Jin (Beijing/Rancho Bernardo HS), meanwhile, is in solo fourth at 6-under 138, thanks to a 4-under 68 in today's second round. Jin's bogey-free day featured birdies on the par-3, 159-yard fifth, No. 9, the par-4, 444-yard 13th and the 18th.

Like Jin, Steve Sugimoto (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) carded a 4-under 68 and is tied for fifth with Colorado State's Davis Bryant at 5-under 139. Sugimoto was 1-over with a 37 on the front nine but came roaring back with five birdies on the back nine, including the ninth hole and a four-hole stretch beginning with the 13th.

Defending Mountain West Champion Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) is tied for 17th at even-par 144 following a 1-under 71 on Saturday. Anupansuebsai overcame a bogey-par-bogey start with three birdies the rest of the way and an eagle on No. 14, offset by a pair of bogeys.

Freshman Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) logged a 2-over 74 and is tied for 23rd for the tournament at +2. Hastings got out to a good start with birdies on the par-4, 362-yard fourth and the par-5, 563-yard sixth, but bogeyed the seventh and double bogeyed No. 9 to make the turn at 1-over. He matched his 1-over on the back nine with two birdies and three bogeys.

San Diego State will tee off for Sunday's final round at 11 a.m. PT along with Colorado State and Nevada.
