Tamara Arnold, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat Earn All-MW Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tamara Arnold and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat have been named to the all-conference singles team and the all-conference doubles team, the Mountain West Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
 
"All of us in the San Diego State women's tennis family are proud to have Bunyawi and Tamara represent us on the all-conference team," head coach Peter Mattera said. "It speaks to the excellent seasons they have had so far and to the season this team has enjoyed to this point. We are looking forward to the conference tournament starting on Thursday."
 
Arnold, a senior from Olten, Switzerland is making her third consecutive appearance on the all-conference singles team, and her second appearance on the all-conference doubles team. She was named to the all-conference singles team in 2020 and 2021, and the doubles team with teammate Julia Jordan in 2020. Arnold went 4-3 in conference play in singles in 2022, splitting her time between the No. 1 spot and the No. 2 spot. In the matches she won this spring, she finished all four in dominant fashion in straight sets. She posted a 12-6 record in singles during the spring dual season and heads into the conference tournament with a 20-8 record over the course of the fall and spring seasons.
 
Thamchaiwat, a senior from Nakhonratchasima, AF Pacific, Thailand earned her spot on the all-conference singles team and the all-conference doubles team after a dominant season. The current No. 77 ranked player in the country, Thamchaiwat has enjoyed an extremely successful stint at SDSU this season. Thamchaiwat played the entire dual season at the No. 1 slot in singles play and posted an impressive 2-0 record in conference and was leading in three other conference singles matches that went unfinished. Thamchaiwat went a perfect 11-0 in dual matches while consistently playing the best competition in both conference play and throughout dual season, and has not lost a match in over six months heading into the conference tournament. 
 
The duo also earned all-conference doubles team recognition, for their stellar play as a pair this season. They are currently ranked No. 79 in the country and went a perfect 4-0 in conference play together at the No. 1 slot for the Aztecs. In dual matches over the course of the spring season Arnold and Thamchaiwat went 13-2 and including their fall campaign the duo posted a 19-4 record together during the 2021-22 season.  
 
Up Next: The Aztecs are the No. 3 seed in the Mountain West tournament and will play the winner of No. 6 Wyoming vs. No. 11 Utah State on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinal round in Tucson, Arizona.
