Aztecs in Sixth Place Through Two Rounds

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Aztec women's golf team finished the second round of the Mountain West Championships Tuesday. The Aztecs shot a 304 in their second 18 holes and sit in sixth place with 18 more holes to go Wednesday.
 
SDSU has three golfers in the top 15 and are led by Anna Lina Otten and Bernice Olivarez Ilas, who are tied for 10th with a 149 (+5).
 
Olivarez Ilas shot a 75 Tuesday. She had three birdies on the front nine and then was five-over-par on the back nine.
 
Otten, who had SDSU's low score of 72 Monday, shot a 77 Tuesday. She bogeyed seven of her final 11 holes but was able to birdie the 11th and 13th hole.
 
Sara Kjellker had the lowest score among Aztecs on the day, improving her score by two strokes on Tuesday with a 74 aided by one birdies and 14 pars.
 
Esti Garcia Rubio entered the day tied for 10th but shot a 79 Tuesday and didn't score for SDSU.
 
Anika Sato matched her score from Monday, shooting another 78. She was two-over-par on the front nine and then had two birdies offset by two bogeys and two double-bogeys on the back nine.
 
No. 5 San Jose State strengthened their lead, shooting a tournament-best 290 Tuesday. They are seven-under-par as a team and lead second-place Fresno State (+18) by 25 strokes.
 
The Spartans' Natasha Andrea Oon has a six-stroke lead with a 135 (-9). New Mexico's Lauren Lehigh had the low score of the day, shooting a 69.

Tuesday's average score was 76.27, 0.6 strokes higher than Monday.
 
THE NOTE
Sara Kjellker's 74 tied for the eighth best score on the day and moved her up 10 spots.
