RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Aztec women's golf wrapped up the first day of Mountain West Championships Monday.
Playing in hot and dry conditions, the Aztecs shot a 296 (+8) and are in third place after 18 holes. All four Aztec scorers are in the top 30, and three are in the top 10.
Anna Lina Otten was the top Aztec finisher, shooting an even par 72 to tie for the fourth best score of the day. It was Otten's third time shooting a 72 or better on the year. She finished with three birdies and three bogeys.
Bernice Olivarez Ilas and Esti Garcia Rubio both shot a 74 (+2) and are tied for 10th. They each had two birdies and two bogeys.
Sara Kjellker, the reigning Mountain West champion, shot a 76 (+4), and Anika Sato finished with a 78 (+6).
No. 5 San Jose State is in the lead after the first day. They shot a 279 (-9) and had the top two individual finishers including Natasha Andrea Oon who set a Mountain West Championship record with a 65 (-7).
