PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Aztec lacrosse team (5-8) fell at No. 13 Rutgers (12-3) 14-4 Saturday. The afternoon was highlighted by Deanna Balsama scoring her 53rd goal on the year, the most in Aztec school history.

The Aztecs were held to their lowest scoring output of the year but only trailed the Scarlet Knights in shots on goal 22-20.

SDSU allowed seven first quarter goals and found themselves down 10-2 at the halftime break. They were able to hold Rutgers to just four second half goals.

SDSU had eight caused turnovers to Rutgers' four and was 19-for-20 on clears.

Courtney Robinson led SDSU with two goals. Balsama had a team-high eight goals and six shots on goal. Julia Lytle, who played the last three years at Rutgers, scored once and tied Brook Waddell for a team-high four ground balls.

Goalkeeper Sam Horan finished with eight saves.

STAT OF THE GAME
Deanna Balsama broke the SDSU school record for most goals in a single season. She scored her 53rd goal Saturday to break Harlowe Steele's record of 52 set in 2019. SDSU still has two more games remaining.

THE NOTE
This was the Aztecs' sixth game on the year against a team currently ranked.

SDSU will end their road trip Monday when they play Brown at Fairleigh Dickinson University at 9 a.m. PT (Noon ET).
