SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The San Diego State men's golf team took fourth place at the 75th annual Western Intercollegiate Wednesday at the historic par-70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Aztecs shot a 2-under 348 in Wednesday's final round to finish at 42-over 1,092.

SDSU was leading No. 6 Washington (+41) by a stroke heading into the 18th hole but had a player bogey while a Husky golfer birdied to switch the final places. No. 9 Texas captured the team title at +25 by a stroke over No. 8 Pepperdine (+26). San Diego State (+42) ended up beating three top-50 programs in the latest Golfstat rankings, including No. 38 Oregon (+51), No. 30 Arizona (+67) and No. 12 Stanford (+85), along with Mountain West opponents Colorado State (+67) and host San Jose State (+69).

The Aztecs shot 12-under (4.78 avg.) for the tournament on par-5s, tied with Texas for the lowest score.

Freshman Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) finished in a tie for fifth place out of 92 golfers to lead SDSU at 3-over 213 following an even-par 70 in today's final round. Hastings finished just a stroke back from a what would have been a four-way tie for second in a tournament won by Pepperdine's Dylan Menante at 1-under 209. Hastings had four birdies in the round, including three on the front nine at the par-3, 217-yard third hole, the par-4, 346-yard seventh and the par-5, 502-yard ninth. He answered a bogey on the par-4, 391-yard 11th with a birdie on the par-4, 373-yard 12th to get back 2-under but recorded two additional bogeys over his final six holes to settle for a 70.

Fellow freshman Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) tied for 17th at 8-over 218, thanks to an even-par 70 on Wednesday. Lague sank three birdies on the day, including the par-4, 378-yard fourth, the ninth and the par-5, 527-yard 13th, which were offset by three bogeys.

Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS), meanwhile, shot a 1-under 69 today to move up 11 places and tie for 24th for the tournament at 10-over 220. Guezzale's day featured an eagle on No. 9, three birdies and four bogeys.

Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) and Zihao Jin (Beijing/Rancho Bernardo HS) each tied for 34th at 13-over 223. Anupansuebsai followed a 13-over 83 on Monday with a 72 Tuesday and 2-under 68 today. Anupansuebsai logged five birdies on the day, including two over the final four holes (par-3, 141-yard 15th and the par-4, 363-yard 17th). His other birdies came on No. 3, No. 9 and No. 13, offsetting three bogeys in a four-hole stretch from holes 11-to-14.

Steve Sugimoto (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) bounced back from back-to-back 78s with a 2-over 72 in today's final round. Sugimoto was even par through 10 holes with two birdies (No. 4 and No. 9) and two bogeys, but triple bogeyed No. 11. He birdied No. 13 and recorded pars the rest of the way to sign for a 72.

SDSU next competes in the Mountain West Championship, set for April 29-May 1 at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Washington.
