SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The San Diego State men's golf team finished its first round at the Western Intercollegiate before it was suspended due to darkness Monday at the historic par-70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Aztecs got in at 29-over-par 379 on a windy and cold day, which is good enough for sixth place out of 14 teams.

No. 8 Pepperdine is in first at 18-over and will finish its final hole Tuesday morning. No. 9 Texas is the leader in the clubhouse at 21-over 371, followed by No. 6 Washington (+23), California (+24), host San Jose State (+26) and SDSU (+29).

Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) is tied for seventh at 2-over 72, just two shots out of the lead. None of the 92 golfers in the field are under par. Hastings had three bogeys before birdieing the par-4, 363-yard 17th hole. His 14 pars are tied for the most in the field.

Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS), meanwhile, is tied for 23rd following a 5-over 75. Guezzale sank three birdies on the day, including the par-4, 505-yard first, the par-5, 502-yard ninth and the par-5, 527-yard 13th. An unfortunate triple bogey on the par-3, 181-yard 18th, however, dropped him out of the top 10 and into a tie for 23rd.

Zihao Jin (Beijing/Rancho Bernardo HS) and Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) are each tied for 40th after shooting a 7-over 77 today. Jin notched two birdies - No. 9 and the par-4, 426-yard 14th - but also seven bogeys and a triple bogey on the par-3, 177-yard eighth hole.

Lague had three birdies, including the par-4, 378-yard fourth, No. 9 and the par-4, 373-yard 12th, but also a triple bogey on the par-3, 217-yard third, two double bogeys and three bogeys.

Steve Sugimoto (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo), who on Friday was named the Mountain West Co-Men's Golfer of the Week, sits in a tie for 52nd at 8-over 78. Sugimoto was 5-over through five holes before birdieing the par-4, 346-yard seventh. His only other birdie came on No. 17 as he also had eight bogeys and a double bogey on the par-3, 194-yard fifth.

Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) is also competing for San Diego State and is tied for 82nd after a difficult 13-over 83. Anupansuebsai will look for his first birdie of the tournament on Tuesday.

Four golfers sit atop the leaderboard at even-par in Pierceson Coody (Texas), Rasmus Hjelm (Colorado State), Nick Watts (San Jose State) and Dylan Menante (Pepperdine). Menante still has to finish the 18th hole Tuesday morning.

The Aztecs will begin their second round at 9:42 a.m. PT Tuesday.
