FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Six San Diego State divers competed in the 1-meter springboard event at the NCAA Zone E Championships at Wall Aquatic Center on the campus of Northern Arizona University on Monday, with Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez the lone Aztec to make the final.
 
Lechuga Gonzalez finished in 10th place with a score of 553.80. The senior out of Tijuana, Mexico, was in 12th place after the prelims, with a 275.25, and needed to improve five spots to qualify for the NCAA Championship but came up 4.46 points shy of qualifying. The top seven places move on to Atlanta to compete in the NCAA Championship slated to begin on March 16.
 
With the top 18 competitors making the final, Valentina Lopez Arevalo, in her first Zone E Championships, ended up 23rd in the prelims with 252.15 total. Summer Westmoreland, also in her initial appearance in the Zone E competition, finished with a score of 236.40 and in 34th place.
 
Seniors Gina Cazares and Gillian Garcia were 41st and 45th with scores of 229.25 and 218.00, respectively and freshman Emma Duggan posted a 209.15 total and finished in 50th place.
 
The 3-meter springboard competition is Tuesday with prelims getting underway at 11:30 a.m. MT and the finals to immediately follow. Links for streaming video and live results are on the swimming and diving schedule page at www.goaztecs.com.
