SAN DIEGO – Sophia Ramos and Asia Avinger of the Aztec women's basketball team were honored by the conference's head coaches, the Mountain West announced Sunday morning. Ramos was an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention selection and Avinger was named to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team.

Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) led the Aztecs in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game in conference play and scored in double-digits in all but two Mountain West games. She ranked in the top 10 in the conference in eight statistical categories, including points, assists, steals and three-point percentage.

Ramos has 1,525 career points, the fifth most in program history and is the only Aztec ever to total more than 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists in a career. She is one of just three active four-year players in the nation to have those totals.

This is Ramos' second time earning all-conference honors. She made it as a sophomore in 2019-20 and was also named to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team in 2018-19. She missed 13 games in 2020-21 due to a midseason injury.

Avinger (Cerritos, Calif.) led all Mountain West freshmen in scoring (13.2), assists (4.9), made free throws (51) and free throw percentage (.797) in conference play. She scored 20 or more points three times, including 30 against Boise State, and reached double-digits 12 times (includes AF).

Avinger won the Mountain West Freshman of the Week award twice and was the Mountain West Preseason Freshman of the Year twice (she missed the 2020-21 season due to injury.

This is the second straight year the Aztecs have had a member on the Mountain West All-Freshman Team. Kim Villalobos was honored last year.

The Aztecs begin the Mountain West Tournament Sunday afternoon when they square off against Boise State at 4:30 p.m.
