COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State's Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) has been named the Mountain West Men's Golf Freshman of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the first career MW accolade for Hastings.

Three different Aztecs have now been named a MW Freshman of the Week this season, including Shea Lague (Jan. 27), Jack Townsend (March 10) and Hastings (March 24).

Competing as an individual, Hastings captured medalist honors at the UC San Diego Invitational earlier this week on the par-72, 7,151-yard Omni La Costa Championship Course, beating out the 89-man field with a 9-under-par 207.

Hastings had rounds of 70 and 69 on Monday, and 68 on Tuesday. Both the 207 and 68 were easily career lows (previous lows were 221 and 72). The 68 by Hastings on Tuesday was particularly impressive as he was the only golfer in the field to shoot in the 60s and he was one of just seven to shoot under-par as the stroke average for the final round was 75.97. Hastings, who rallied from three strokes down to pass UC San Diego's Davis McDowell (-8), had eight birdies in his final-round 68. His 17 birdies overall were the most in the tournament

Hastings became the fifth different SDSU golfer to capture medalist honors since the 2019-20 season and seventh overall.

San Diego State will look to defend its Wyoming Cowboy Classic title April 4-5 at Whirlwind Golf Course in Chandler, Arizona.
