ATLANTA – San Diego State freshman diver Valentina Lopez Arevalo competed in the platform event on Saturday at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships and earned a 34th place finish at the McAuley Aquatics Center.
Lopez Arevalo, who joined the Aztecs prior to the start of the spring semester, earned her spot in Atlanta after finishing ninth at the Zone E Diving Championships. In the NCAA Championships, she totaled a 239.40 in the prelims but did not qualify for the finals.
The native of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico qualified for the Zone E Championships by winning the platform diving competition at the Lumberjack Invitational, in Flagstaff, Ariz., with a 294.86, which at the time was the program record on the platform.
