COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time in less than a month, San Diego State senior Joe Tyler has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

A native of Corby, England, Tyler combined for a 4-0 record in doubles and singles, all in the No. 1 position, helping the Aztecs split a pair of home matches vs. No. 46 Gonzaga and Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 26.

"This is another well-deserved award for JT," said SDSU head coach Gene Carswell. "Joe brings energy and positivity to every practice and conditioning workout, so it's no surprise we're seeing that dedication pay off in his singles and doubles results. His game is really blossoming this spring."

In the Aztecs' narrow 4-3 setback to the nationally ranked Bulldogs, Tyler helped the Scarlet and Black capture the early doubles point after teaming with freshman Alexander Mandma for a 6-3 triumph over Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja.  Later in singles play, the former Iowa transfer maintained his intensity with a 6-2, 6-2 conquest of Trkulja, securing one of two SDSU victories in the round.

In the nightcap vs. Pomona-Pitzer, Tyler and Mandma faced minimal resistance with a 6-0 whitewash of Jansen Comadena and Owen Kelley at the top of the rotation in doubles. He continued his dominating ways in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 thumping of Hayden Snyder, propelling the Aztecs to a 6-1victory on the team scoreboard.

With last week's results, Tyler raised his singles record to a team-best 12-5 on the year, including a stellar 6-1 mark in dual matches.

Tyler, who garnered conference weekly accolades on Feb. 9, also sports an identical 12-5 record in doubles, including a 10-5 mark with Victor Castro and a 2-0 ledger with Mandma.

"Joe has been a tremendous addition to our squad this season," Carswell added. "He's helped push our team forward, and I expect the best is yet to come for him and our group."

Tyler and the Aztecs will be back in action this weekend when they compete in the prestigious Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club (March 3-6) while hosting Utah in a non-conference dual match on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
