San Diego State Softball Co-Hosts San Diego Classic This Weekend
The San Diego State softball team returns to America's Finest City this weekend when it co-hosts the San Diego Classic with San Diego and UC San Diego. The tournament will feature 10 teams, playing a combined 24 games across the three stadiums.

The Aztecs (11-5) are coming off a 2-3 weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. SDSU beat No. 5/5 Washington, 7-5, and UC Davis, 9-1, in five innings, and lost in extra innings to No. 18/15 Northwestern, 7-6, (9) and to No. 16/19 Missouri, 7-6 (8). San Diego State started its week with a 7-3 loss to Cal State Fullerton.

The Aztecs are receiving 12 votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, which is the 32nd-most points in the poll.

SDSU has been impressive in all three phases of the game, owning a .318 average, 2.54 ERA and .979 fielding percentage. 

San Diego State has four players hitting over .400, including Jillian Celis (.442, 15 RBI, 10 R, 4 2B, 4 3B), Mac Barbara (.431, 7 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R, 5 2B), Jessica Cordola (.412, 2 HR, 10 RBI) and Makena Brocki (.409, 1 HR, 8 RBI). As of Feb. 28, Celis was tied for first in the NCAA in triples (4) and tied for ninth in hits (23), while Barbara ranked in a tie for second in total bases (48) and tied for sixth in home runs (7).

Maggie Balint (4-3, 12.64 ERA, .189 opp. avg.) ranks fourth in the country in strikeouts seven innings (12.4) and tied for fourth in strikeouts (80), and has twice been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week. Dee Dee Hernandez (2-1, 1.08 ERA, 3 SV, 23 K, 26.0 IP) was named the MW Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, while Allie Light (2-0, 1 SV) and Dani Martinez (3-1) have each posted a identical 3.82 ERA in 18 1/3 innings.
