SAN DIEGO -- One former Aztec played in a trio of NBA games and guided his team to a big win while another participated in a golf tournament.
In the NBA, guard Malachi Flynn (2020) appeared in three games for Toronto. This week, he averaged 9.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 0.7 steals. Flynn closed out the week on a strong note. On Monday night, Flynn started in Toronto's 133-97 blowout of Brooklyn and put up a season-high 18 points on efficient 7-for-11 shooting, along with five assists, four rebounds, and a game-high +42 plus/minus rating. On the season, he is averaging 3.4 points, 1.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.1 blocks. Charlotte forward Jalen McDaniels (2018-19) continues to miss games with an ankle injury. So far this season, he is averaging 6.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.4 blocks per game. Forward Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) is on the Los Angeles Clippers, but is sitting out while recovering from a torn ACL suffered during last season's playoffs.
On the PGA Tour, J.J. Spaun (2009-12) tied for 30th at 2-over-par in the Honda Classic. Xander Schauffele (2013-15) is ranked eighth in the world. Spaun will compete in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, in Orlando, Florida, next weekend.
