AUGUSTA, Georgia – The Aztec women's golf team battled extreme wind and cold weather in their first round of the Valspar Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club Saturday morning. Due to the high winds, play was shortened from 36 holes to 18 and the Aztecs will wrap up the tournament with 18 holes on Sunday.
 
San Diego State is in 10th place (out of 16) after shooting a 314 (+26). No. 4 South Carolina, the day one leader, finished with a 301 (+13). Only one of the 90 golfers posted a score under par. The Aztecs were led by Sara Kjellker and Bernice Olivarez Ilas who both shot a 77 (+5).
 
Kjellker had three birdies, six bogeys and one double-bogey, while Olivarez Ilas had one birdie, four bogeys and one double-bogey. Both of them double-bogeyed the par 4 370-yard third hole.
 
Anna Lina Otten and Anika Sato both shot an 80 (+8) which tied them for 49th and Esti Garcia Rubio didn't factor into the scoring after shooting an 82 (+10).

Olivarez Ilas was one of 12 golfers to finish with 12 or more pars.

The Aztecs will play 18 holes Tuesday morning. The shotgun start time is set for 6 a.m. (9 a.m. ET) but could be delayed due to frost on the ground.
