Lechuga Gonzalez Takes 1-Meter At Lumberjack Invite

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez scored a total of 591.45, including a season-best 305.15 in finals to win the 1-meter competition on the opening day of the Lumberjack Invitational at the Wall Aquatic Center in Flagstaff, Ariz. In total, six Aztecs made the finals with four finishing in the top 10.
 
Lechuga Gonzalez improved on her previous season-high score, which was a Zone E Championships qualifying score, by nearly 20 points. It is the ninth time in her Aztec career that she has surpassed the 300-point plateau in the event and her ninth victory in a 1-meter event while competing for SDSU.
 
Valentina Lopez Arevalo was third with a 559.45 total and a final round score of 280.90. Friday was the second competition in a row in which the Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico native recorded a Zone E Championships qualifying score in the 1-meter event.
 
Summer Westmoreland was sixth with a total of 523.00 and a finals score of 259.05, which is a season high for her in the event.
 
Lexi Letts qualified for the Zone E Championships with a season-best 270.60 in the finals and totaled 520.45 to finish in eighth place.
 
Emma Duggan scored 482.55, including 243.15 in the finals to finish in 15th place and Gina Cazares totaled 242.45 in the final and 481.00 overall to place 17th.
 
Gilliam Garcia, Olivia Zamudio and Jules Harrison did not make it to the final. The trio finished in 21st, 25th and 26th places in the prelims with scores of 228.90, 180.45 and 178.70, respectively.
 
The Aztecs are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 5. The 3-meter competition gets underway at 10:30 a.m. MT.
