LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Playing in a high wind warning with 15-to-25 mph winds and gusts in the 40s, the San Diego State men's golf team completed the second round with the morning wave at The Prestige before the afternoon wave was suspended Tuesday afternoon at the par-71, 7,100-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST.

The Aztecs, who are ranked 44th in the latest Golfstat ratings, shot a 22-over-par 306 in the second round and were 14th out of 24 teams at the time with the top-12 teams just teeing off. Despite playing the windy afternoon wave on Monday and facing a high wind warning most of its round on Tuesday, SDSU and the other 11 teams got its second round in. During the afternoon wave today, however, the second round was halted for almost an hour and 30 minutes because of the aforementioned high winds. The 12 teams will finish their second round Wednesday morning in calmer conditions.

Still, San Diego State is currently in 13th place at 34-over 602, only trailing two teams who finished in No. 7 Texas Tech (+25) and No. 18 Vanderbilt (+30). The other non-finishing 12 teams are all ranked in the top 15.

Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) leads the Aztecs after two rounds at 6-over 148 following a gutsy 1-over 72 today when the average second round for the 78 finishers was 78.27. Starting on the back nine, Anupansuebsai recorded three birdies in today's windy round, including the par-5, 566-yard 12th hole, the par-4, 470-yard second hole and the closing par-4, 359-yard ninth. Despite his four bogeys, he vaulted up 45 places on the leaderboard so far and currently sits in a tie for 21st out of the 120 entrants.

Steve Sugimoto (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) shot an 8-over 79 today and is tied for 33rd at 8-over 150. Sugimoto's lone birdie came on the 12th as he had six bogeys and a double bogey on the second.

Zihao Jin (Beijing/Rancho Bernardo HS) carded a 6-over 77 and is tied for 49th at the moment at 9-over 151. Jin was 1-under through his first seven holes thanks in part to birdies on No. 12 and the par-4, 431-yard 15th, but he shot 7-over the rest of the way to settle for a 77.

Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) is tied for 79th at 13-over 155 following a 9-over 80 on Tuesday. Lague's lone birdie came on the par-3, 216-yard 13th. He was even par through six holes but was +9 over his final 12 holes.

Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) carded a 7-over 78 and is tied for 113th at 19-over 161. Guezzale birdied the par-4, 337-yard 11th out of the gate, and was in the red numbers through six holes but he bogeyed three straight holes to close his first nine (No. 16, par-3, 180-yard 17th and par-4, 461-yard 18th). He then added two more bogeys on his back nine and a triple on the par-4, 481-yard sixth.

Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg leads the tournament at 2-under 140, backed by an impressive 2-under 69 today.

Two other SDSU golfers - Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) and Skyler Ngo (Las Vegas) - finished their second round as individuals in The Prestige Individual Invitational on the par-72, 7,145-yard Coral Mountain Golf Club. Hastings shot is second straight 4-over 76 and is tied for 27th out of 62 players at +8, while Ngo carded another 5-over 77 and is tied for 40th at +10.
