SAN DIEGO -- A former Aztec and recent Super Bowl Champion now has a new job.

Former Aztec quarterback and Super Bowl LVI Champion as the Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell (2004-07) now has a new job. On Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings held a press conference announcing O'Connell as their next head coach, replacing Mike Zimmer. Last season, Minnesota finished second in the NFC North with an 8-9 record.

In the NBA, guard Malachi Flynn (2020) appeared in Toronto's win over Minnesota on Wednesday before the league went into the All-Star break. In seven minutes, Flynn grabbed a pair of rebounds while adding two assists. On the season, he is averaging 2.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.1 blocks per game. Charlotte forward Jalen McDaniels (2018-19) remains out with an ankle injury. So far this season, he is averaging 6.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.4 blocks per game. Forward Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) is on the Los Angeles Clippers, but is sitting out while recovering from a torn ACL suffered during last season's playoffs. 

On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) tied for 13th at 9-under-par at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles. Scott Piercy (1999-2001) tied for 61st at 1-under-par and J.J. Spaun (2009-12) did not make the cut in the event. Schauffele is ranked eighth in the world. Spaun will compete in the Honda Classic, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, this weekend.
