SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swimming and diving team, coming off its third Mountain West crown in the last four seasons, earned 55 All-Mountain West awards at last week's 2022 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships. The announcement was made from the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Tuesday.
All-Mountain West designation is bestowed on the top eight finishers in each of the individual events as well as the members of the top three relay teams in each of the five relay events.
Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez and Meredith Smithbaker earned Diver and Freshman of the Meet, respectively. Lechuga Gonzalez was an All-Mountain West performer in each of the three diving events and Smithbaker garnered four All-MW honors, two as an individual and two from the relays. For the second straight year, Klara Thormalm was the top award getter among the Aztecs, taking home seven honors. Sammy Geyer, who also took home seven All-Mountain West honors last year, earned six in 2022. Mia Ryan and Kristina Murphy earned five All-Mountain West designations.
The Aztec divers, who have qualified, are in preparation for the 2022 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships from March 7-9 in Seattle, Wash. SDSU's swimmers who achieved NCAA B-Cut marks during the season await notice that they have earned spots in the 2022 NCAA Championships, March 16-19 in Atlanta.
