SAN DIEGO -- A former Aztec is a Super Bowl LVI Champion.

Former Aztec quarterback and Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell (2004-07) coached his team to a Super Bowl victory. The Rams entered the game without wide receiver Robert Woods and tight end Tyler Higbee. Running backs Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson were coming off injuries. Just before halftime, receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a knee injury and missed the remainder of the game. O'Connell was still able to draw up a game winning drive for the Rams that gave them a lead that they would not relinquish with a minute and a half remaining.

In the NBA, guard Malachi Flynn (2020) appeared in three games for Toronto. He averaged 2.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steal on the week. On the season, he is averaging 3.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Charlotte forward Jalen McDaniels (2018-19) missed the week with an ankle injury. So far this season, he is averaging 6.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. Forward Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) is on the Los Angeles Clippers, but is sitting out while recovering from a Torn ACL suffered during last season's playoffs.

On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) tied for third at 15-under-par in the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Scott Piercy (1999-2001) did not make the cut in the event. Schauffele is ranked seventh in the world. Schauffele, Piercy, and J.J. Spaun (2009-12) will compete in the Genesis Invitational, in Pacific Palisades, California next weekend.
