COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Ashley Callahan of the San Diego State track and field team was named the Mountain West Freshman Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Callahan (Escondido, Calif.) took first place in the pole vault after clearing 14-00.00 (4.27m) at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational last weekend. Her mark set a new SDSU record for freshmen in the indoor season and ranks fifth all-time in both Mountain West and program history.
She now has the highest vault in the Mountain West this season and is tied for the 21st best mark in the nation.
The Aztecs next meet is the Mountain West Indoor Championships Feb. 24-26.
