Aztecs Tripped Up at USC

LOS ANGELES – The Aztec lacrosse team (0-1) dropped its season opener at USC (1-0) 18-7 Saturday afternoon. SDSU was led by Camdyn O'Donnell and Deanna Balsama who each netted three goals and a hat trick.
 
The Aztecs hung with the Trojans early on, getting a pair of early goals from O'Donnell and trailed just 5-4 early in the second quarter but then saw the Trojans score six unanswered goals as part of a 10-1 run and couldn't recover. SDSU had just seven shots in the second half.
 
USC outshot SDSU 36-18 and 28-16 in shots on goal. They also had a 21-7 advantage in draw controls.
 
The Trojans had eight players score and were led by Isabelle Vitale and Ella Heaney's four goals. Vitale scored four of USC's first five goals.
 
Aztec goalkeeper Sam Horan had 10 saves, while USC's Kait Devir had nine. Cailin Young and Bailey Brown led SDSU with two turnovers caused each.

The Trojans went on a 10-1 run spanning the second and third quarter.
 
THE NOTE
Both Deanna Balsama and Brook Waddell scored their first career goals as an Aztec.
