Aztec Women’s Tennis Opens 4-Match Homestand Friday

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team opens a four-match homestand with contests on Friday and Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs open the home stretch with a match against Long Beach State on Friday at 2 p.m. PT. SDSU will be back in action on Saturday at noon PT against Cal Poly.

San Diego State is off to a 3-1 start entering play this week against a pair of Big West Conference schools. The 49ers are 1-1 this season and defeated UC Davis, 4-3, in their last match last Saturday. The Mustangs are 2-2 this year and are coming off a 4-0 victory over Sacramento State last Saturday.

The Aztecs have been dominant this season at home. San Diego State is undefeated in three matches at the Aztecs Tennis Center, having outscored its opposition, 14-1. Overall, this season, San Diego State is undefeated at both number one singles (4-0) and number one doubles (4-0).

SDSU senior Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, who entered the campaign ranked 82nd nationally in singles, moved up to No. 80 in the most recent ITA rankings released yesterday. Thamchaiwat is 3-0 singles record this season, all at the number one spot, and has partnered with Tamara Arnold at the top of the doubles lineup to record a 3-0 record.
