SAN DIEGO -- A quartet of former Aztecs advanced to the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs.
Safety Damontae Kazee (2013-16) started and was on the field for 30 defensive and four special teams snaps in Dallas' playoff loss to San Francisco. Kazee made eight tackles (three solo) in the game.
Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (2013-16) started for San Francisco and played all 65 snaps on offense and five snaps on special teams in a playoff victory over rival Dallas. He made a solo tackle. Brunskill's 49ers will face top-seeded Green Bay on Saturday.
Long snapper Aaron Brewer (2008-11) appeared for six snaps on special teams for Arizona while making a tackle for the third consecutive week. Tight end David Wells (2014-17) did not appear in Arizona's playoff loss.
Offensive lineman Jacob Capra (2019-20) is on Buffalo's practice squad. The Bills are in Kansas City on Sunday night. Defensive lineman Alex Barrett (2013-16) and cornerback Luq Barcoo (2018-19) are on San Francisco's practice squad. The 49ers face Green Bay this week in the playoffs.
In the NBA, guard Malachi Flynn (2020) appeared in a game for Toronto, playing a minute against Detroit. On the season, he is averaging 2.8 points, 1.0 rebound, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Forward Jalen McDaniels (2018-19) appeared in three games for Charlotte. McDaniels averaged 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists. So far this season, he has averaged 6.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. Forward Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) is on the Los Angeles Clippers, but is sitting out while recovering from a torn ACL suffered during last season's playoffs.
On the PGA Tour, J.J. Spaun (2009-12) did not make the cut in the Sony Open in Hawai'i. Xander Schauffele (2013-15) is ranked sixth in the world. Spaun and Scott Piercy (1999-2001) will compete in The American Express, in La Quinta, California, this weekend.
