SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (9-8, 3-3) plays at Nevada (11-4, 3-0) Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. It will be Nevada's first game since Jan. 2 after having three games postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Wolf Pack program.
Aztec Tidbits
• SDSU notched a couple of home wins last week, beating Utah State 80-63 and Boise State 66-45.
• This was the first time the Aztecs have won back-to-back conference games by 17 points or more in Stacie Terry-Hutson's tenure (9th year).
• Asia Avinger (Cerritos, Calif.) took home her second straight Mountain West Freshman of the Week award. She scored 30 points on 10-for-12 shooting against Boise State to become the first Aztec freshman to score 30 or more points in the Mountain West era. She is just the fourth Aztec in the last 20 years to make at least 10 field goals on 12 or less attempts.
• Mallory Adams (Frisco, Texas) also scored a career-high against Boise State. She poured in 25 points with seven made threes, tied for the second-most in a game in program history. Adams leads SDSU in scoring and rebounding in conference play and has the most made three-pointers in conference play in the Mountain West.
• This was just the fourth time in the Mountain West era that the Aztecs have had two players score at least 25 points in the same game.
• Sophia Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) is one of three active four-year players with career totals of at least 1,300 points, 450 rebounds, 350 assists and 100 steals (Portland's Haylee Andrews & Ohio's Erica Johnson). She is currently in the top 10 in program history in five statistical categories.
• Ramos is second in the nation in total minutes played and is in the top 100 nationally in six statistical categories.
• Adams and Ramos are closing in on 500 career rebounds. Ramos has 499 and Adams has 470.
• Kim Villalobos (Van Nuys, Calif.) is averaging 10.0 rebounds over her last three games.
• SDSU has three active players in the top 10 all-time in career three-point percentage. Mercedes Staples (Centerville, Utah) is fourth at 37.8 percent (51-135), Isabela Hernandez is sixth (35.9%, 55-153) and Sophia Ramos is 10th (35.3%, 131-371).
• The Aztecs are committing a conference low 9.5 turnovers per game in Mountain West games.
• SDSU is holding its opponents to 30.1 percent shooting from three, the second-lowest rate in the conference.
• The Aztecs have already surpassed their win total from last year.
• The Aztecs officially joined the Jordan Brand family this season, becoming just the ninth women's basketball program in the Jordan lineup.
Opponent Notebook (Nevada)
• The Wolf Pack are 11-4 and 3-0 in conference.
• This will be their first game since Jan. 3 due to COVID-19 issues within the Nevada program.
• They are 7-2 at home.
• They have won their three conference games by an average of 20.3 points.
• They have a NET ranking of 166, seventh in the Mountain West. The Aztecs are sixth at 145.
• They are fifth in the nation in free throw percentage (.794) but attempt just 12.9 a game (271st).
