COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Asia Avinger of the Aztec women's basketball team was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. This is the second straight week Avinger has taken home the award.

Avinger (Cerritos, Calif.) averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists on the week while helping the Aztecs beat both Utah State and Boise State by double-digits.

Avinger, who was the preseason Mountain West Freshman of the Year, scored 30 points on 10-for-12 shooting against Boise State Saturday.
This was the first time the Aztecs have had a freshman score 30 points or more in a game in the Mountain West era.

Avinger became just the fourth Aztec, regardless of class, to make 10 field goals on 12 or less attempts in the last 20 year. She also was 9-for-10 from the free throw line against the Broncos.

On Thursday against Utah State, Avinger stuffed the stat sheet and finished with 14 points, eight assists and six assists.

In conference play, Avinger is averaging 16.0 points, 5.8 assists and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.69, all of which are tops among Mountain West freshmen.

Avinger and the Aztecs play at Nevada, who is undefeated in Mountain West games, Wednesday evening.
