Asia Avinger Named MW Freshman of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Asia Avinger was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. Avinger (Cerritos, Calif.) averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds and helped the Aztecs go 1-1 against two of the top teams in the conference.

In SDSU's upset of Colorado State, Avinger had a career-high 24 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Avinger's 10 made field goals doubled her previous high of five.

On Sunday, in the Aztecs' 75-72 loss at New Mexico, Avinger nearly had a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, a career-high nine assists, and eight rebounds.

For the week, she tallied 16 assists and had just six turnovers while averaging 34.0 minutes per game.

The Aztecs return to action this Thursday when they host Utah State at 6 p.m.
